Real fruit isn't cheap, and we'd rather show you the math than ask you to trust us.
A flavor system is built to work at a fraction of a percent of a formula's weight, that's what makes it cheap. Fruit powder doesn't work that way, it's dried whole fruit, so it takes real quantity to deliver real taste. Ours runs 15–23% of every stick's total weight. Roughly half to two-thirds of what we spend on ingredients goes to the fruit itself, not the electrolytes, not the vitamins. That's most of the price difference between Vesi and a flavored powder, that’s the trade. More fruit, fewer sticks per dollar, and a drink that tastes like fruit because it is fruit.

Why real fruit matters
Whole fruit brings a package: polyphenols, natural acids, fiber, and micronutrients, arriving together the way food does. A flavor delivers taste. We wanted the package.
That's not a slogan, it's how the science actually works. The strongest research on this is called the food matrix effect: whole food delivers nutrients in a structural context that isolating a single compound doesn't reproduce. A 2024 review found anthocyanin recovery after digestion ran 18–113% from whole red cabbage versus 3–31% from an extract of the same compound. It's why we use fruit powder instead of a nutrient added on its own.
There's also a simpler reason, and it matters just as much: a kid has to actually want to drink it. Flavored, appealing drinks measurably increase how much kids voluntarily drink versus plain water. Taste is a hydration mechanism in a young athlete, not a marketing detail, and real fruit is how you get real taste without a flavor system standing in for it.
What are "natural flavors" actually doing?
By the FDA's own definition, a natural flavor is a substance whose job in food is flavoring, not nutrition. That's not an accusation, that's the legal definition. So the honest answer to "what is a natural flavor doing for a young athlete" is: nothing, nutritionally, because that was never its job.
Here's what that definition means in practice: a flavor system can legally be built from more than a hundred different constituents and still be summarized on a label in two words, "natural flavor." It doesn't have to come from the fruit pictured on the front of the package, and the solvents used to make it don't have to be listed at all. Real, whole fruit doesn't get that shortcut. The law requires it to be named, blueberry powder, lemon powder, strawberry powder, because dried fruit is treated as food, not as flavor. Food gets named. Flavor gets summarized. That's the entire difference, in one sentence.
What does a young athlete actually need to recharge?
This is the part where we'd rather tell you the truth than sound complete.
Recharging after a hard practice takes four things: fluid and sodium, carbohydrate, protein, and sleep. Vesi handles the first one directly and contributes a little to the second. It doesn't touch the third or fourth. Your athlete still needs a real meal and a real night's sleep after a hard day. What we built is the hydration piece, and we built it dosed for a young athlete's body instead of scaled down from an adult's.
That's arithmetic, not a slogan: children's whole-body sweat losses are lower than adults', so an adult-sized sodium or magnesium dose isn't just unnecessary in a young athlete, it's mismatched to what their body actually lost.
